The Suicide Squad (2021)

8.0

2021-08-06

It is a fun film, however, although characters are cool, they don't have much sense. Peacemaker and Bloodsport are always fighting each other like monkeys. They almost even exterminate the whole resistance for "stupid" reasons. Of course in the end Bloodsport wins, because you know, but what, what kind of ammunition does he use? Less deadly than a single spear but enough to go through Peacemaker's bullet? +2

There are like 4 more. The Shark guy. He is literally the toughest guy, but for some reason they made it useless. Yay! +1. The polka-dot guy. Literally the strongest long mid range character. Able to disintegrate anything. Yet, filmmakers decide to ridicule him and think it is even a good idea to make him use his power against the final boss' LEG. The Leg really? The kaiju has 5 legs and one incredibly huge big eye on the middle of its enormous body and scriptwriters think that he would decide to use that power on a leg? Nice one. Useless +1. And then there is the colonel. Ok. A colonel. They are kind of military in the end, I guess? Not useful, however.

Well, I think there are no more useless characters on the film. Let's start with useful characters.

Harley Quinn. Nothing to say about her. Give her a gun, and it gains the powers of a rocket. Give her a spear, it obtains the powers of microscopic stingers. Her own body is a set of unlimited weapons.

And the rat girl. What the script says: the power to control rats. What I see: the power to generate rats out of air (or clone them or take them from alternative universes). What more can I ask?

These last 2 characters. Somehow, without heavy weapons. Without much works. In matter of seconds. Without much resistance. They are able to kill the final boss. How? How? The spear Harley Quinn carries breaks its eye. One single spear. However, hundreds of bullets shot by Bloodsport weren't enough? Are you serious? And then the rat girl mandates her rats to eat the space starfish and the thing does basically nothing? Wow. Amazing.

Let's recap. The most useful characters were the 2 girls and a little bit the black guy. Wait. Nah, it's coincidence.

As I said, the film is fun, cool, characters are really interesting, but the plot is pretty cringy.

At least John Cenna's script is better now (better than in "The Wall", although that is not hard).
